Obituary Preview: Mary Louise Dahl, age 81, residing at Rose Vista in Woodbine, Iowa, returned to home to Jesus on August 8, 2023.

Mary was born on June 29, 1942 to the late John Paul and Marietta Doner. She grew up on a farm east of Hamlin with her grandparents, Floyd and Cora Doner. Mary attended Exira Community Schools and graduated in 1961. She was a steadfast farm girl, even after her family moved to Council Bluffs.

At the age of 25, she was united in marriage to Walter Clifford Dahl, a veteran of the Navy. From this union came three children, Dorothy, Larry and Judy. Mary lived a full life, often enjoying gardening, birdwatching, crafts, and "drowning a worm" (fishing).

Mary spent many years working in the food service industry, including for the Council Bluffs Community School District, Shoney's restaurant, Indian Hills nursing facility, and reached retirement at West Central Development head-start program. She also spent several years as a newspaper courier for the Daily Nonpareil and Omaha World Herald. Mary was active in the PTA, volunteered her time at the school as a homeroom parent and classroom volunteer, and was an active parent in her son's Boy Scout troop.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Floyd and Cora; her father and stepmother, John Paul and Ella Doner; her mother and stepfather, Marietta and Emil Doner; her two stepsisters, Joanne Larson and Janelle Stauffer; her husband, Walter Dahl; and grandson, Scott Crooks.

Mary leaves behind to mourn her three brothers, Clifford, Marlowe and William Doner; her three children, Dorothy Miller, Larry Dahl, and Judy Dahl; her daughter-in-law, Cathy Dahl; her cousins, Robert and wife Patricia Boydston, Steve Boydston, Mike Franks, and Maryanne Lawrence; her grandchildren, Carrie, Ryan and Dustin Miller, and Brandy and Nicki Crooks.

A reception in Mary's honor will take place on Friday, August 11, 2023 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM with a prayer and remarks at 6:00 PM at Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Burial will be on Saturday, August 12, 2023 at 1:00 PM in Exira Cemetery.

John is survived by fiancée, Linda Queen; children, Samuel Disalvo and Daniel (Jeannie) Disalvo; step daughter, Melissa Queen; siblings, Mervin (Becky) Disalvo and Virginia "Ginny" (John) Case; grandchildren, Amelia Disalvo and Kiara Queen; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other family and friends; honorary sister, Memory (Richard) Mescher.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM with recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 09, 2023.

Mike married the love of his life, Paula in 1999 and they have three kids that he absolutely adored (Jacob, Garrett and Maryn).

Mike was very involved in his kids’ activities. He coached them in baseball and on the weekends he would take them to the field to practice or to the driving range to practice their golf swing.

Mike was a lifelong fan of the Huskers and Phillies and he passed down his love for both teams to his boys.

Mike is survived by his wife of 24 years, Paula Lesley; parents, Terry (Georgianna) Lesley and Joyce Lesley; children, Jacob Lesley, Garrett Lesley, and Maryn Lesley; siblings, Wayne (Heather) Lesley, Jenny (Bryan) Doughman, Jill (Tucker) Lesley, Shelly (Jason Early) Lesley, and Heather Hawkins; nieces and nephews; a host of other family and friends.

In honor of Mike’s love of the Huskers and Phillies, please wear your Huskers/Phillies gear to the funeral.

Thomas will be laid to rest in the Crocker Cemetery in Crocker, Missouri.

On July 30, 1991, Bruce was united in marriage to Charmaine Warth. He was a volunteer firefighter at Lewis Township Fire Department for 20 years. He enjoyed building airplanes, fishing, and boating around the lake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Kevin Turner. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Charmaine Turner of Council Bluffs; many other relatives and friends.

Visitation is 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2023 at the Hoy-Kilnoski Funeral Home in Council Bluffs. Memorial Service is 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2023 also at the funeral home. Inurnment with Military Honors is in Memorial Park Cemetery in Council Bluffs.

He was born April 13, 1952, and was the son of the late Robert (Paula) Horton and Joyce (Fluke) Horton. He graduated from Osceola High School. Later in life, he attended Iowa Western Community College and received an Associate’s Degree.

Rick was united in marriage to Sharon Rust. To this union, they were blessed with six children. They made their home in Treynor. Rick was highly involved in community youth events; umpiring and coaching baseball with his children was a favorite pastime.

He had a strong love for meteorology, weather, and all things in the sky. Many friends and family referred to him as Radar Rick and Papa Fix ‘it. Rick owned/operated Home & Acres in Treynor for over 25 years. When he wasn’t working, you would find Rick cruising around Treynor, getting ice cream with his dog Maggie, or spending time with his grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Sharon Horton. He is survived by his children: Autumn Horton (Cheryl); Justin Horton (Kris); Moriah Bees (Dylan); Alyssa Horton (Mark); Nigel Horton (Rachel); Erin Horton (Liz); 12 grandchildren; sister, Vicky Horton; brother, Darren Horton; a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. with a prayer service to follow on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at the Zion Congregational Church in Treynor.

Fly high my spirt in the sky, My heart is just absolutely shattered idk why you had to leave us mom but I know every single person you’ve met will miss you so much until they get to see you again. You were THEEEEEEEE BEST mom and grandma ever. Idk why the good ones gotta go first we’re gonna miss you so damn much momma. I love you…Today is a day of heartbreak and the loss of an amazing soul. Happiness comes in some many forms and love grows with such power. The sand, sun and Harley won't be the same. I love you and will miss you. . My family has suffered great losses in the last 15 hours. My dad John Wallace passed away last night unexpectedly and my sister Joan Wallace had a stroke after leaving my dad's last night and she did not make it after a day of fighting hard. .My brother and I lost our dad and our sister in this short time and the rest of my family have lost a grandpa, dad, brother, uncle, cousin, my mom lost a daughter and her kids a mom and grandma, an aunt a friend a significant other. This is just insane. Joan was an amazing person, and had so much love to share it was incredible!! Joan made me so Happy and full of life, I am grateful that I had a chance to be in her life. !I’m Heartbroken for my Wallace side of the family and at a loss for words.. Please keep them in your prayers right now. She was such a breath of fresh air the moment she entered the room. Her spirit and smile were everything! What a fun person she was… Joan lit up the room when she came in…may God get you all through this…Even though there is joy in going Home, there is sorrow in your loss. Thinking of you at this tender time. Hugs to you all…A hole has been placed in our hearts. We will miss our Joannie! May she Rest in Peace…Joan was an amazing and fun - loving person that will be deeply missed…Joan was a great friend.All the talks we had she always stated her love for you all. I will cherish her in my heart. Until I see her again…How can such a vibrant, energetic women with an infectious personality and good heart be gone?... She was such a beautiful woman and friend to so many…Sending love and prayers from your family in Iowa…Take care of each other & know that she will always be with you in your hearts…May God lift you up on his angels’

She truly was one in a million and will be forever missed… she was such an amazing person…Not even comprehendible…still doesn’t feel real…A lot of good times with her at Kelly's North Bowl…You guys have always been my second family…Everything I start to write just sounds so inadequate because it is…May God give you peace and solace in this difficult time…My heart is sadden…She was an awesome person…working with Joannie on the board was always a pleasure…Joan was always laughing and smiling at the alley… You can’t dim her sparkle. She would run through a brick wall if you asked her to…She would check in from time to time full of enthusiasm…I will sure miss her guidance and encouragement. Joan was cheerful every time I spoke with her…she was always so friendly to me…I’m just numb thinking about it. God needed her. Joan was a bright lite in this world and had the kindest soul She left an impact on our family in the short time we knew her. She was an amazing ray of sunshine! Flew around like a

butterfly always! Joannie was one of the “special” ones.

She then worked at Mutual of Omaha for several years and at Joslyn Art Museum . Rhonda moved to Las Vegas in 1988 and began a 35 year career in Human Resources. She worked at Bally Technologies for 23 years as a Senior Benefits Manager. She also worked at Andre Agassi College Preparatory Academy, PDS Gaming and most recently at Mayo Health Systems. She also owned a business, "Rhonda to the Rescue Pet Sitting, LLC".

Rhonda was an artist with many interests and lived life fully. She brought the sunshine and energy into every room. She loved people and animals and always saw the best in everyone. You could say she never met a stranger. Rhonda was a caring and generous person who would give you the shirt off her back, even if it was her last one. She took great pleasure in giving elaborately wrapped gifts.

Survivors include her daughter, Brittney Vanecek of Las Vegas, parents Charles Vanecek of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Beverly Crouter of Omaha, Nebraska, sisters and one brother in law, Glenda Yost of Omaha, Ne, Krystal Hanson of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Lisa Miller (Greg) of Valley, Nebraska. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

He continued to live in the Crescent and Council Bluffs areas until knee surgery. At that time, he came to reside with his sister, Sherry Toelle, in Atlantic, Iowa. His health continued to deteriorate. In the fall of 2022, he was placed in out-of-home care through the Veteran's program in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Sonny was a graduate of Holy Family Elementary School and Creighton Prep High School. He planned to attend Iowa State University in the Veterinary Program, but a riding accident with his horse impeded that plan. Sonny later attended Iowa Western College, earning an Associate of Arts degree. During his career, he worked at the U.S. Post Office.

Sonny loved animals, especially horses and dogs. He served his country during the Vietnam conflict. While serving he worked in surgery at Landstul, Germany.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, Louis Henry and Katherine (Coyle); a stillborn sister, Kathleen (Yvonne); and an older sister, LouAnn Drake.

He is survived by his younger sister, Sherry; numerous nieces; and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM at Hoy Kilnoski Funeral Home on Friday, July 14, 2023.
