Parody Song Title:

"Rudolph The Red Gunned Cowboy"

Parody Written by:

Kalisha Tsekos

rudolph the red gunned cowboy
had a very shiny gun
and if you ever saw it
most folks say you'd run
all of the other cowboys
used to laugh and call him names
they never let poor rudolph
join in any cowboy games
then one western christmas eve
santa came to say
rudolph with your gun so bright
wont you shoot my wife tonight?
then all the cowboys loved him
as they shouted out with glee
rudolph the red gunned cowboy
you'll go down in history

. . . is that you, DAVE ? ? . . . oh, you're still a nasty Cowboy !

Linda - May 03, 2014 - Report this comment

I always heard it different, Rudolph the red nosed cowboy had a very shiny gun. and it was poker games not cowboy games. The sheriff ask him to kill his wife not Santa.

Chuck Taylor - December 28, 2014 - Report this comment

I like your version better!

Vincent Parry - December 28, 2014 - Report this comment

Why would Santa want his wife killed, and why are the cowboys gleeful about Rudolph getting the contract? Is this a true story? I missed it in the Enquirer. Anyway, the parody uses much too much of the original. Please try this again and provide motivation, like Mrs. Claus was boinking Blitzen.

Variations on this have made the rounds for the past several decades (cf. http://www.amiright.com/parody/misc/christmas5.shtml if I may be immodest). It is a home-grown parody, to be sure.

Sue - February 17, 2015 - Report this comment

I always knew it as, 'Randolph, the Red-nosed Cowboy'.

Fred May - December 13, 2015 - Report this comment

I've sang this song every year at Christmas time for over 40 years here in Michigan. I sang it last night at a party and did a Google search this morning, finding this page. I learned "shiny gun cowboy" AND "poker games", otherwise, the words are identical, amazing.

Also, I sing "Then one foggy Christmas eve, the sheriff came to say ..."

Robert Bowen - December 21, 2016 - Report this comment

We used to say "you would drop your pants and run" and "Then one foggy Saturday night; Sheriff came to say". We also said poker games.

I first heard a variation of this (Texas, the Two-Gun Cowboy") back in the 50's.

Melanie Lee - November 14, 2019 - Report this comment

My sister's class in grade school sang a parody like this back in the 1960s at St. Mary's School in Long Island City, Queens, NY. Many, if not nearly all of the words, are identical.

"...and if you ever saw it, you would drop your pants and run."

Randy - December 25, 2019 - Report this comment

In our version we sang "poker" in place of "cowboy" games. We also sang it was "the sheriff" not "Santa" who came to say on a "stormy" (not "western") Christmas Eve. The biggest difference, the last line in our version was, "you'll hang from the highest tree".

John Wayne - October 31, 2021 - Report this comment

This is not the original author of this song. It's over 30 years old and was told to me by my dad. Not sure who wrote this but it wasn't the websites author.

Sean - November 03, 2021 - Report this comment

Maverick the brown eyed cowboy, had a very shiny gun. And if you ever saw it you would turn around and run.

Mike - December 02, 2021 - Report this comment

Where is learned it Randolph the six gun shooter had a very shiny gun and if you ever saw it you would drop your pants and run all the other outlaws used to let them call him names they never let poor Randolph joined any outlaw games then when foggy Friday night the sheriff came to say Randolph with your gun so bright won't you shoot my wife tonight then all that lost loved him as they said it out with Glee Randolph the six gun shooter you're going to the penitentiary cuz the sheriff's a snitch
