Can you use frozen pierogies in this recipe?

You can use frozen pierogies, but you must thaw them before making the dish. To thaw them, you can place them in the fridge at the start of the day to allow them to defrost, or you can boil them for three minutes and drain them before adding to the dish.

What so you serve it with?

We like to top this pierogy pizza casserole with our favorite pizza toppings like black olives, chopped bell peppers and fresh basil. It’s great to serve with a Caprese Salad or Shoestring Fries on the side.

Can you make this casserole ahead of time?

This is a great make ahead casserole. You can make the whole dish and keep it covered in the fridge for 2 or 3 days until you are ready to bake it.

Leftovers will keep well for 3 or 4 days and can be reheated, covered with foil, in an oven to be warmed through.

Ingredients

  • 12.84 ounces frozen Pierogies thawed (we used Mrs. T’s 4 Cheese Mini Pierogies. You can use any kind but I do like the smaller kind for this recipe)
  • 14 ounces pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup Mini Pepperoni
  • 1 tablespoon Grated parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil on the side
  • Black olives on the side
  • Chopped green pepper on the side
  • Any toppings you like best on the side

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375F. Spray a small casserole dish with nonstick spray.

  • Pour half of the pizza sauce into the bottom of the casserole dish, coating the bottom.

  • Place the pierogies in a single layer on top of the pizza sauce. Spoon the remaining sauce over the pierogies.

  • Sprinkle the pierogies with the shredded mozzarella.

  • Top with pepperoni and sprinkle with grated parmesan.

  • Bake, uncovered, for 40 minutes.

  • Garnish with fresh basil, olives, green pepper, (or any of your other favorite pizza toppings) and serve. Enjoy!

Outstanding! I am a really picky eater and I love these. I was a bit concerned over the potato and pasta sauce but wanted to give it a try. I’m really happy I did. My husband is the man that critiques everything edible. He said I could make this anytime and he wouldn’t change a thing.
