About Sumter Police Department | Sumter, SC (2024)

FIRST WEEK COMPLETED, 2ND WEEK UNDERWAY: More than 30 local 14-and 15-year-olds selected for this year's Youth Corps summer work experience program had a successful first week learning the value of soft skills coupled with hard work.
This week, they'll build on what they learned. So, the coming weeks should be a charm.
Through the city's Community Development department, Sumter PD school resource and juvenile division officers work with the students to teach them basic work skills, while helping maintain city properties.
City employees/officials also work with the students in a classroom setting to develop and fine tune those soft skills that also will serve them well as they focus on a career and grow into becoming Sumter's future movers and shakers.
Team work and leadership development are all part of the experience provided over the next few weeks.

People "Making A Difference" I Love It...

Thank you for sharing this article showcasing Sumterโ€™s future being mentored by Sumterโ€™s finest. I was blessed to work for the Youth Corps during the Summer of 1999. That experience boosted my social skills and resume to where I was able to get my first part-time job at Zaxbyโ€™s on Broad Street and then eventually landing my dream job at Foot Locker at the mall. I held my Foot Locker job until i graduated from Sumter High (2002) and went to college in Atlanta and transferred to the Foot Locker at Lenox Mall. Humble beginnings for bright futures is how i describe the Youth Corps. Shout out to my bonus dad MSGT Richard Hampton (Retired) and all of his retired colleagues: Officers Marcy Coclough, Sandra Williams, Buddy Adkins, and a host of others who ran the program back in the days. ๐Ÿ˜Ž๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ

Kudos to the youth. Look how nice the areas look once theyโ€™re done. This is a good program for the community.

Thank you for empowering our future Sumter leaders ๐Ÿ’› Our Continental team is excited to see them this week!

How long will they be doing this? And how many youth are doing it? Iโ€™d like to do something special for them as a โ€œthank youโ€ from outsiders. To let them know weโ€™re proud of them!

Excellent!!! Iโ€™m proud of the students that joined the program!

Awesome kids doing a great job!

I wish yโ€™all the best! Keep up the good work.

This is very inspiring!!

Yes yes yes love this community action we need more of this!!!

Bring out the men in general in our communities. The fathers, the uncles, nephews, and cousins....they need to be out and about and active in positive roles throughout the communities. Communicate, advocate, play, and encourage our youth. No matter the race!!!!! They are our future and we are losing them to violence, social media, and other negative things.

A lot of kids need this kind of love and support for sure!!!

This my nephew and his friends !!! Okay this is a beautiful thing

We need to see more of this in our community, to keep the violence to a minimum ๐Ÿ’™, shoutout to the patrol officers for interacting with our youth๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿพ

Maybe this is a step in the right direction to get my little hometown back to how it used to and should be. Looks like so much fun

The Sumter Fire Department is the agency in charge and responded to an abandoned building. The fire is under control and we continue to ask drivers and others to avoid the area.

My cousin is one of the responders. He's a firefighter. Please pray for everyone.

Prayers for our first responders as they fight this fire.

I pray for their safety and that no one is inside

Pretty sure my grandaddy and his brother worked from this building a very long time ago. The old Fort Roofing/Heating?

I was about to ask if that was Nova chemical. I used to work there.

That looks like a huge fire.. I hope everyone is OK. ๐Ÿ™

This is my Moms neighbor!! Praying they find her safe!!! ๐Ÿ™ ๐Ÿ™

Her family might need to consider getting Life 360. It has been a blessing to my family and can definitely put your mind at ease when you can look at the app and see where your loved one is.

Hope she is found safe. When someone starts having memory loss it would be good idea to put agps or something to help keep track of them. Prayers for her safety.๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป

We have shared this missing alert for Barbara Muldrow.

Why would she be driving if she suffers from memory loss? She should've never been driving at all. Come on family members what were you thinking...I pray she's found safe and sound,I stopped my mom from driving the minute i noticed a difference in her at 77.

Praise God! Beautiful lady. Get her safely home to her family.
