A Comprehensive Guide to Master Closet Size And Design - Exclusive Closet (2)

Designing a master closet that is both functional and aesthetically pleasing requires careful planning and consideration of your specific needs and preferences. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you master closet size and design:

  1. Assess Your Needs:
  • Start by evaluating your clothing, shoes, and accessory collection to determine how much storage space you require.
  • Consider whether you’ll be sharing the closet with a partner and their belongings.
  1. Set a Budget:
  • Determine your budget for the closet project. This will influence the materials and features you can incorporate.
  1. Choose the Location:
  • Decide on the location of your master closet. Common choices include a spare bedroom, a dedicated walk-in space, or an alcove in your bedroom.
  1. Closet Types:
  • There are several closet types to consider:
    • Reach-In Closet: Typically found in smaller spaces, these are shallow closets with one or two doors.
    • Walk-In Closet: Larger closets that you can walk into, offering more storage space and customization options.
    • Wardrobe Closet: Freestanding closets that can be used when you have limited built-in options.
    • Built-In Closet: Customized closets built into your bedroom or dressing area.
  1. Closet Dimensions:
  • For a walk-in closet, aim for a minimum width of 5 feet and a depth of 6 to 8 feet. Adjust these dimensions based on your available space.
  • Reach-in closets are typically narrower, around 3 to 4 feet wide.
  1. Layout and Design:
  • Consider how you want to organize your clothing. Common layouts include:
    • Double hanging rods for shirts and blouses.
    • Single hanging rods for longer items like dresses and coats.
    • Shelving for shoes, bags, and folded items.
    • Drawers for underwear and accessories.
  • Design the layout to maximize both hanging and shelving space. Use adjustable shelving for flexibility.
  1. Lighting:
  • Good lighting is essential. Consider overhead lighting, LED strips, or motion-activated lights. Natural light from a window can also enhance the closet’s functionality.
  1. Flooring:
  • Choose a durable, easy-to-clean flooring material like hardwood, laminate, or tile. A carpeted floor can be cozy but may require more maintenance.
  1. Storage Accessories:
  • Incorporate storage accessories such as:
    • Pull-out baskets or hampers.
    • Belt and tie racks.
    • Jewelry drawers or organizers.
    • Pull-out mirrors.
  1. Mirrors and Seating:
  • If space allows, add a full-length mirror or a mirror on the inside of the closet door.
  • Consider including a seating area, like a bench or ottoman, for dressing and putting on shoes.
  1. Style and Décor:
  • Choose a design style that matches the overall aesthetic of your home.
  • Use coordinating colors and finishes for shelving, cabinetry, and hardware.
  1. Maintenance and Organization:
  • Regularly declutter and organize your closet. Consider seasonal rotations to keep it manageable.
  1. Professional Help:
  • If your budget allows, consult with a professional closet designer or organizer to help you maximize your space and tailor the design to your specific needs.
  1. DIY vs. Professional Installation:
  • Decide whether to undertake the project yourself or hire professionals. A DIY project may save money but can be time-consuming.
  1. Sustainability:
  • Consider eco-friendly materials and practices to minimize your closet’s environmental impact.
  1. Future-Proofing:
  • Think about your future needs and ensure the closet design is adaptable to changes in your lifestyle and wardrobe.

Remember, there’s no one-size-fits-all solution for a master closet. Tailor the design to your specific requirements, and you’ll have a functional and aesthetically pleasing space to store your clothing and accessories.

The experience from the day Alex (owner) came to visit to review our garage and design. I was sold after an half hour conversation. At that point, I knew that no other company would provide me with the detail and personalize attention that Alex would provide to our home....I’m a person that takes my time very serious and I judge people based if they are punctual and follow up with a phone call. Alex was exactly on time and was even more impressed cause it was raining pretty heavy. He came in and measured our garage and sat with us to ask a few questions about our needs and our expectations based on our need to add storage and find a system to organize our garage. He quickly went to work on a design with us.
My wife looked at me with a crazy look. After Alex left and we had provided him a deposit, So followed with asking my wife to cancel California closets and Premier Garage. I had a great feeling this job not only would it come out exactly the way it was design but Alex would go above and beyond to meet all of my expectations.
Today, after patiently waiting for my scheduled installation. The work started and the job was completed today. Just amazing custom cabinets which I have become a star on my block and everyone complimenting how elegant the garage looks.
If you are considering a company and partnering with an owner invested in each and every job and will provide you with value on the product but also be very attentive to all of your phone calls and txt messages then Exlusive Closet Design is the company you want in your home.
This was the finish touches to make my home a dream home. I highly recommended Alex and his company. The guy works hard for him and his family and brings a level of value and pride and shows it on the quality of workmanship. This is a win for the good companies and good guys like Alex who represent themselves and family to run his company and provide those same family moral to his company to provide excellent customer service, and quality work.
